Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have reportedly stepped up the ante in their bid to win the race for Manchester United midfield target Sofyan Amrabat.

United completed the loan signing of Amrabat from Fiorentina on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils forked out an initial fee of £8.5 million, with an option to make his stay permanent for an additional £20 million.

However United decided not to trigger Amrabat’s buy-option. Fabrizio Romano relayed that United were still keen on bringing back Amrabat to Old Trafford but only if they could successfully negotiate a new fee with Fiorentina. It’s believed that Amrabat’s wish is to continue playing under Erik ten Hag.

According to Sports Zone (via GFFN), United are considering a move for Amrabat in case their deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte fails to get over the line.

Ugarte is United’s top midfield target but an agreement with PSG over the Uruguayan’s transfer fee is proving difficult to find.

PSG are asking for a significantly higher sum than United are willing to fork out, hence the option of swooping in for Amrabat remains on the table.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Fenerbahce had made an offer for Amrabat, but it fell short of Fiorentina’s valuation of the 27-year-old.

Tuttomercatoweb have given a slight update and reveal that the Super Liga outfit are the party pushing the hardest to sign the Moroccan midfielder.

The Italian news outlet also point out that other clubs could enter the fray for Amrabat.

“He [Amrabat] is in the sights of Atletico Madrid and could also become an idea for some teams in our Serie A (in particular for Milan).”

“In these hours, however, the team that is coming forward with the most force comes from Turkey.”

“It is Mourinho himself who is pushing to have him and who hopes to be able to give a decisive push.”

Amrabat made 30 appearances across all competitions for United last term.
