Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly in talks with Manchester United for the loan of Harry Amass.

It has been claimed by the BBC that the two clubs have held discussions over a possible temporary switch for the teenager.

Amass broke into the first team squad at Old Trafford last season, featuring five times in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim.

However, a loan move to the Championship may earn him more regular game time that gives him the experience he needs at senior level to compete for Man United long-term.

When asked if he’s surprised Man United would seek this move for Amass, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna claimed it’s not the club he’d send a young player to given the chaos behind the scenes.

However, he believes the guarantee of regular game time might be enough to persuade the Premier League club it’s the right next step for the youngster at this stage of his career.

“All the players linked to us in recent weeks, it has come as a surprise that these players seemingly may be coming to Hillsborough,” McKenna told Football League World.

“In the case of Harry Amass, who is coming from a massive club like Man United, yeah I am quite shocked that they would possibly want him to come to Sheffield Wednesday.

“Because, let’s be honest now, the problems at the club are widely known now across football, it’s kind of hard to not have knowledge as a football fan that it is absolute chaos at Sheffield Wednesday right now.

“It is a really unstable and toxic environment for any player, so in my mind we would be the last club you would want to be bringing a young player to for some loan experience.

“I would think that surely they’d want him to go to a stable club where he won’t have any worries about his wages, where it won’t be a very challenging situation where he is part of a massive uphill battle with a threadbare squad.

“And any other club than Sheffield Wednesday would seemingly offer a better platform for the development of a professional footballer.

“But maybe I’m just looking at this as a fan, not understanding it as a footballer.

“Maybe they see it as a chance that he’s most likely guaranteed football because of the shortfall of players.

“But whatever the reason, if United are willing to let him come to Hillsborough then that’s definitely a plus for Sheffield Wednesday.”

Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a home clash against Stoke City on 16 August.

Amass signing would be great for Sheffield Wednesday

Man United are likely to be covering most, if not all, of Amass’ wages as part of a loan, so that shouldn’t be a major concern with a move to Hillsborough.

The full-back’s minutes at Old Trafford would be limited this year with Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw all likely ahead of him in the pecking order when everyone is fit.

So a move to the Championship has a lot of potential, and Sheffield Wednesday may be the best option for guaranteeing regular minutes.

As long as he’s playing every week, Man United will be pleased with the deal, and it should be a great boost for Henrik Pedersen’s side.
