It has been reported that Sheffield Wednesday have rejected a surprise offer for Bailey Cadamarteri from Blackburn Rovers.
Blackburn Rovers have started the season in mixed form and their business may not be done just yet, but the Lancastrians have reportedly failed in a deal that they were trying to organise for next summer, involving Sheffield Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri.
Under the management of former Barnsley and West Bromwich Albion boss Valerien Ismael, Blackburn missed out on the top six and the play-off places on the final day of last season.
After a very busy summer which has seen plenty of comings and goings, including experienced Rovers players such as club captain Lewis Travis recently depart, Blackburn started this season slowly.
On the opening day of the season they were beaten by a goal to nil by the Baggies at The Hawthorns, before an EFL Cup first round loss to Bradford City at Ewood Park and then a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City at home, in a game in which they led going into second-half stoppage-time.
However, a 3-0 hammering of Hull City in Yorkshire last weekend has given renewed hope to the supporters that they can once again knock on the door of the top six in the second-tier, and it could well be that they are in for a busy couple of days in the transfer window, albeit Cadamarteri may not be a deal that they can pull off.
According to Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, Blackburn Rovers have had a bid rejected by Sheffield Wednesday for young striker Bailey Cadamarteri.
It has been reported that Rovers offered the Owls £1 million, with the proposal seeing Cadamarteri also remaining at Hillsborough for the 2025/26 season on loan - but Wednesday have turned that down.
Despite EFL transfer restrictions placed on the club, Wednesday would have been allowed to bring Cadamarteri in on a loan deal, but owner Dejphon Chansiri has refused the proposal.
Chansiri has overseen a chaotic summer for Sheffield Wednesday, which has seen the Owls begin this season with a bit of a mess of a squad and some players leaving as a result of not being paid, such as Michael Smith and Josh Windass.
The money from Blackburn, as said by Nixon, could have been used to pay the wages of players and staff at the club by Chansiri for the future, but the owner has refused to budge when it comes to Cadamarteri.
Blackburn have experienced a busy summer in the transfer market, and they have scoured the European market to find new signings throughout this summer.
Dion De Neve, Sidnei Tavares, Ryan Alebiosu, Sean McLoughlin and Lewis Miller, Axel Henriksson and Moussa Baradji have all arrived at Ewood Park, with Gent striker Andri Gudjohnsen also on the verge of sealing a deal with the Lancashire outfit.
The rebuild was much needed for Rovers, who have sold both Lewis Travis and Callum Brittain to Derby County and Middlesbrough respectively, whilst also losing the likes of Tyrhys Dolan and Danny Batth on free transfers, so there has been somewhat of a revolution under Ismael.
Rovers are clearly not done yet in the window though, and whilst their luck may be out when trying to sign Cadamarteri, there's set to be more fresh faces coming in through the door before Monday's 7pm deadline.
