Ruben Selles has already brought someone he used to manage to Bramall Lane, and Louie Barry could be next

Tyler Bindon was confirmed as Ruben Selles' first signing as Sheffield United boss, with the New Zealand international arriving on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest.

Bindon was highly regarded as one of the best centre-backs in League One last season, and it was under Ruben Selles' management at Reading which brought him to the forefront of the Premier League side's attention.

So it only made sense that, if Forest were once again looking to loan the 20-year-old out to a Championship side this summer, it would be to Selles' side, with the Spaniard carrying a reputation for developing young stars and a track record already with Bindon himself.

Sheffield United fans may have felt aggrieved when Chris Wilder was sacked following a season where the Blades earned 90 points (technically 92 without the points deduction), but there's no doubt that the appointment of Selles gives them the upper hand when it comes to securing the services of exciting young talents.

And, after Louie Barry's move to Hull City collapsed recently, perhaps Ruben Selles could use his previous links with the young attacker to bring him to Bramall Lane, in a similar way to how he brought Bindon in.

Ruben Selles relationship could entice Louie Barry to Sheffield United

Louie Barry is, once again, expected to leave Aston Villa this summer, and it seems like Unai Emery's side are happy to part ways permanently after four consecutive seasons on loan at various clubs.

The most recent club that the 22-year-old was loaned out to was Hull City, who at the time were coached by current Sheffield United manager Ruben Selles.

He arrived with plenty of excitement, having torn up League One in the first half of the season whilst at Stockport County, netting a 15-goal tally which still placed him in the top six on the scorers chart for the entire season, but his time at Hull was quickly halted by a season-ending injury just four games into his spell.

The Tigers were the worst-performing side in front of goal in the Championship last season, and Barry was one of the main attacking reinforcements brought in to change that. Selles managed to keep Hull up on the final day, but it perhaps would have been a little more straightforward had the 22-year-old not been injured.

The Tigers were looking likely to bring in the Villa man permanently this summer, but a £3.5 million move has seemingly broken down amidst financial uncertainty at the MKM Stadium.

Perhaps now is the time for Ruben Selles to swoop in to secure Barry's services once more.

Sheffield United would be a more apt step up for Louie Barry this summer

For Louie Barry, a move to Hull City could have proven disastrous if he weren't able to hit the ground running, as the Tigers will likely be among those scrapping down the bottom end of the table once more in 2025/26.

However, signing for a side that netted the sixth-most in 2024/25 in Sheffield United could be a more suitable destination for the 22-year-old, who thrives in an attacking side, despite having the quality to make something out of nothing at times.

It would also allow the 22-year-old to prove himself at the highest level and possibly even the Premier League, as the Blades will be expected to once again challenge at the top of the Championship.

With Gustavo Hamer wanting a move back to the top flight this summer, the Blades may need an attacking player to come in from the left to replace him. Barry excelled in that role at Stockport County, and could come in and do the same for Ruben Selles and Sheffield United.
