Chris Wilder could bring Brandon Williams to Bramall Lane this summer following his release from Manchester United.

Sheffield United could be in the market for a new left-back this summer, with Max Lowe in advanced talks to join rivals Sheffield Wednesday, according to The Star.

Lowe made 26 appearances during the Blades' promotion campaign under Paul Heckingbottom in the Championship during the 2022/23 season. He also played 10 games in the Premier League as Sheffield United suffered relegation in their first season back in the top flight.

The 27-year-old will be a free agent this summer and it looks as though the Owls are going to snap up the defender to bolster Danny Rohl's options at left-back.

Blades boss Wilder could look at Williams as a potential replacement for the departing full-back after he was released by Manchester United following an injury-hit loan spell at Ipswich Town this season.

Williams' experience could help him thrive at Sheffield United

Williams racked up 47 Premier League appearances during his time at Manchester United, which also included a stint on loan at Norwich City.

The 23-year-old also played 14 times in Europe for the Red Devils, including two appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

His top-level experience would be a great addition to Wilder's Sheffield United squad as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Williams spent the 2023/24 season away from Old Trafford on loan at Ipswich. He played 15 games in the Championship for the Tractor Boys, scoring twice as they achieved promotion to the Premier League.

His season was cut short by an injury that meant he didn't feature at all after the turn of the year, but he had already played an important part at the start of Ipswich's promotion push. Ipswich won 10 of the 15 games that Williams played for the club during the first half of the season, which included eight wins in the first 10 games.

Williams could be part of another promotion-chasing squad if he joins Sheffield United and he will no doubt have the desire to be a regular starter in a successful season after being ruled out for so much of Ipswich's campaign.

Sheffield United have been linked with Williams in the past

Sheffield United made an approach to sign Williams from Manchester United during Wilder's first spell in charge at Bramall Lane, according to Football Insider in January 2021.

The move never happened and the Blades were relegated at the end of the 2020/21 season after finishing bottom of the Premier League. Wilder left the club in March 2021 with the club in need of a miracle to avoid the drop.

Now that Williams is available on a free transfer and Sheffield United are about to lose one of their options at left-back, it would be no surprise if Wilder tried to sign him once again.

If they do decide to bring Williams to Bramall Lane, they will hope that the experience he gained from his time at Manchester United and during Ipswich's promotion campaign this season can help them challenge at the top of the Championship in 2024/25.
