As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund defender Niklas Süle and on-loan Tottenham forward Timo Werner have both missed out on a place in Germany’s EURO 2024 squad.

Since the start of 2023, Werner has only featured twice for the Germany national team, making his failure to make the squad unsurprising compared to some of the names already confirmed to have missed out.

Currently on loan at Tottenham, the 28-year-old has struggled to rekindle the form that forced Chelsea into splashing £47.5 million on him in the summer of 2020. Despite moving back to RB Leipzig, Werner has been unable to find his scoring touch, and a move to the Premier League has failed to persuade Julian Nagelsmann to select him, as Werner’s international career appears all but over.

Another player who has underwhelmed this season is Dortmund’s Niklas Süle. The 28-year-old has found consistent game time hard to come by at the Westfalenstadion, and while he would offer Nagelsmann cover at right-back and centre-back, the German head coach has elected against calling Süle up.

Nevertheless, one emission from the squad that can be considered unfortunate is that of Serge Gnabry. The Bayern Munich winger has endured a torrid season, riddled with long-term injuries.

Having recently returned from a spell on the sidelines, however, it appeared as though he may be part of Nagelsmann’s plans. Regardless, an injury sustained against Real Madrid in the Champions League has ensured that Gnabry will not be fit in time for EURO 2024, which is understood to be the reason why Nagelsmann has not selected him.
