Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could leave Chelsea in January. While Leicester fans will understandably get excited, re-signing him would be a bad idea.
I know, I know. I just comitted blasphemy, didn't I? Who do I think I am, coming onto a Leicester City fan site and giving the least Leicester-fan-take imaginable?
Well, it's true. Leicester City might want to consider all the factors before they bring Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall back to the club. After considering them all, they will probably reach the same conclusion that I have - Let him go elsewhere.
Alright, let's take a look at the reason why I think this.
If Leicester City's plan is to refshuffle their current Premier League loan allocations, then using one of the slots to bring back Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall would not be a good shout.
Yes, the local lad was brilliant in the Championship last season. However, he is yet to seriously prove himself in the Premier League.
So far in his career, KDH has made 64 appearances in the Premier League. In those 64 appearances, he managed three goals and four assists.
It is easy to look at his last season in the Championship and consider him the holy grail. For the Foxes in their title-winning season, he truly was. However, the top flight is a different kettle of fish. Given the aim of surviving relegation, Leicester are better off signing more established names.
It is a shame that Enzo Maresca pinched Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester and he is now hanging him out to dry. Unfortunately, it gives the Foxes even more reason to dislike the Italian manager.
However, a lesson can be learned from this. As much as it hurts to admit, Maresca is clearly a great manager with an excellent knowledge of what it takes to build a good team. If he doesn't consider KDH as up to scratch, then he might not make too much of a difference to a relegation-surviving team.
I guess this all boils down to Leicester's limited resources and measly budget. It is not necessarily a reflection of Dewsbury-Hall's ability, which we all know about.
Leicester cannot simply make signings which feel good. They must, instead, make signings who align with Ruud van Nistelrooy's vision to stay up this season and build for the future.
In an ideal world, we wouldn't be having this conversation and KDH would be a permanent Leicester player still. However, with the Premier League having restrictions over the amount of loans one team can have a certain time, it's a conversation we must unfortunately have.
