Sean Yates Completes Epic Seven Marathons In Seven Days For ‘Selfless’ Dad & Zoe’s Place | OneFootball

Liverpool lad Sean Yates has just completed the remarkable feat of seven marathons in seven days in memory of his father to raise funds for the newly founded Mark Yates Foundation and West Derby Children’s hospice Zoe’s Place, a charity close to all our hearts after the unbelievable recent efforts to help save the vital resource.

Sean set about starting the foundation after the health of his dad Mark deteriorated in just six weeks following a metastatic lung cancer diagnosis and subsequent stroke and silent heart attack, a time period where he was in and out of the hospital before sadly passing away in August this year.

Describing his father as the ‘most selfless man I have ever known’, Sean’s determination to do something in his honour saw the first major initiative begin on December 10th, running the first 26.2 miles of an epic 183.4 miles overall within the space of a week.

Speaking to Sean, he told me what inspired him to want to take on the challenge…

“There’s no doubt the thing that fuelled me was my dad, but more than anything I wanted to show everyone out there that if they put their mind to something they are capable of doing it.”

Despite the successful seven-in-seven attempt, it was far from all plain sailing as after day three and three marathons, Sean told me his knee was ‘knackered’ and subsequently walking has proven difficult, with taxis coming to his rescue on even the most walkable of distances.

With the support of local businesses, friends including the likes of former Liverpool women’s player Natasha Dowie and his chiropractor, Sean told me his shins were now ‘annihilated’ but thus far the Just Giving page total stands at an incredible £5,870, already surpassing his £5,000 total.

‘This foundation is my way of turning grief into purpose – to raise awareness, give back, and support the charities that mean so much to me and countless others.’
