Schalke 04 appoint new board member for sport | OneFootball

2. Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 have found their new board member for sport.

The Royal Blues announced on Wednesday that former Werder Bremen boss Frank Baumann will take up the post on 1 June.

“We’re really happy that we’ve been able to hire Frank Baumann, an absolute expert and highly respected figure in the world of football,” said Schalke 04 chairman of the supervisory board Axel Hefer.

“During our conversations, Frank made it very clear where he sees opportunities and challenges in order to lead Schalke back to the Bundesliga on a long-term basis.”

Baumann is looking forward to the task ahead.

“Firstly, I would like to thank the supervisory board for their trust and for our productive discussions. The search process was highly professional and extremely confidential. Schalke 04 are a club with a rich history, a large fan base and a lot of potential,” he said.

“We have a lot to do, there’s no doubt about that. I will use the weeks prior to officially taking up the position to prepare myself as best as possible. I’m convinced that with our fans, employees and the energy of this club that we will be able to make a different together – step by step, but also with a clear goal: to make Schalke into a sustainable and successful first-division club once again.”

Schalke sit 11th in the 2. Bundesliga.
