Four Manchester City stars are at the centre of transfer interest from Saudi Arabia, as a summer recruitment drive continues for the Pro League.
While there remains a clear intention to recruit at the Etihad Stadium this summer, speculation and reports surrounding potential exits are grabbing the attentions of as many supporters keeping an eye on developments.
Manchester City are likely to secure their first signing of the summer transfer window in the coming days, with a deal for Chelsea and Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic understood to be imminent after personal terms were agreed earlier this month.
The arrival of the 29-year-old will also permit the exits of either Ilkay Gundogan or Bernardo Silva, or perhaps even both – with the City duo strongly linked with exits from the club this summer.
In a new report this week, it is claimed that the aforementioned pairing make up part of a four-man shortlist at the Etihad Stadium whom officials from Saudi Arabia would like to poach this summer as part of a staggering push to improve interest and quality in the Saudi Pro League.
That is according to the information of CBS Sports’ James Benge, who reports that all of Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo have suitors who would like to take them from Manchester City to the Pro League in the coming weeks and months.
Mahrez is the most likely to the quartet to agree to a switch to the middle-east, with the understanding in some quarters being that the Algeria international is in fact open to the change of scenery, lifestyle, and of course finances.
As for Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, the pair are more likely to remain in European football next season, whether that is at Manchester City, or elsewhere on the continent.
Gundogan has three proposals that he is understood to be considering this week; one from Manchester City, a second offer from La Liga giants FC Barcelona, and a third from last season’s Premier League title rivals Arsenal.
Bernardo Silva is also attracting interest from the Camp Nou club, but is also set to enter into exploratory talks with Paris Saint-Germain, as the Portugal international looks for an improvement in day-to-day lifestyle.
Joao Cancelo’s situation remains somewhat unknown heading deeper into the summer transfer window, with Bayern Munich not expected to activate their €70 million option to buy on the Portugal star, following his six-month loan deal at the Allianz Arena.
