São Paulo will be without midfielder Oscar for several weeks after he suffered a lumbar injury during the derby win over Corinthians at MorumBIS, according to Arquibancada Tricolor. The injury occurred in Saturday’s Majestoso, when Oscar was brought down inside the area and landed heavily on his back, prompting immediate medical attention on the pitch.
Following clinical evaluation, the club’s medical team diagnosed fractures in the transverse processes of three lumbar vertebrae—L1, L2, and L3. While the injury is significant, São Paulo confirmed Oscar’s condition is stable, and there is no evidence of neurological involvement.
The recovery process will be managed conservatively, with treatment targeting pain control, relative rest, and progressive rehabilitation. The expected timeline for Oscar to return to competitive action is between four and eight weeks, depending on his rate of clinical and functional improvement in the coming days.
Oscar had been regaining match rhythm after recently returning from the Super Mundial, slowly integrating back into the squad as Hernán Crespo navigates a period of injuries and squad reshuffling. His absence is another setback for São Paulo, who have faced a series of injury disruptions throughout the current campaign.
The club’s midfield rotation now faces added pressure, especially with key fixtures looming as São Paulo attempt to build momentum following their morale-boosting derby victory, a result that moved them up to 13th in the table. Oscar’s progress will be closely tracked by the medical staff, with updates expected as his rehab advances.
