German winger Leroy Sane will play for Bayern Munich at the Club World Cup despite agreeing a free transfer to Galatasaray (h/t journalist Florian Plettenberg).

Sane’s contract is due to expire this summer, and he has rejected multiple offers from Bayern to renew his deal.

Sane was expected to move immediately, but Bayern have now struck a gentleman’s agreement with Gala to retain the German international for the Club World Cup.

However, Sane will only be available for the games in June and will not be part of Bayern’s squad next month if they progress to the knockout stage.

Despite falling down the pecking order under manager Vincent Kompany, Sane still played a key role in Bayern’s Bundesliga title win this season.

Kompany showed keen interest in keeping Sane for the Club World Cup. He believes the former Manchester City star will be a formidable presence in attack.

Bayern will kick off their Club World Cup group stage against Auckland FC on June 15. They also play Boca Juniors and Benfica.

New signings Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof will also feature in the tournament.

Forward Kingsley Coman has been named in the squad, but he could leave Bayern this summer amid offers from the Saudi Pro League.

The Bavarians are scouring the market for a new winger, shortlisting Bradley Barcola, Rafael Leao and Nico Williams as potential targets.

Williams appears to be the most feasible target as he is open to leaving Athletic Bilbao for a new adventure.

However, the Spaniard’s astronomical wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block to the deal.
