Mohamed Salah recently sat down with TNT Sports Mexico for an exclusive interview. The Egyptian forward reflected on his form, his evolving role in the team, and Liverpool’s future under new manager Arne Slot. Salah, always candid, offered some remarkable insights that shed light on both his mindset and his ambitions.
When asked if he feels like the best player in the world, Salah didn’t hesitate. “In my head, I always see myself as the best,” he affirmed. This confidence has been reflected in his performances this season. Salah has already recorded 17 assists, the highest tally of his career, demonstrating his growth as both a goal scorer and a playmaker.
Discussing his preference between scoring and assisting, Salah highlighted a memorable moment against Manchester City. “The assist against Man City… I think it was bigger than my celebration,” he said, emphasising the significance of key assists in crucial games.
Salah’s ability to balance both scoring and creating opportunities is remarkable. “I’m a winger with a striker’s numbers and a midfielder’s assists,” he noted. His determination to maintain this balance shows why he remains at the top of his game.
Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, has had a profound impact on the team. Salah praised Slot’s meticulous approach, admitting that he was initially surprised by the Dutchman’s success. “Before I worked with him, I didn’t expect that. But once I started, I was like, OK, I’m not surprised anymore,” Salah revealed.
Slot’s attention to detail and willingness to adapt have been key to Liverpool’s recent success. “He doesn’t have that ego,” Salah said. “If things aren’t working, he changes it.” Salah also noted that Slot’s openness to confrontation helps foster a more honest and effective relationship with his players. “He tells you things straight to your face,” Salah said, highlighting Slot’s direct approach as a positive trait.
Tactically, Salah praised Slot’s flexibility. “He’s very good tactically… he tries to change stuff to work for each team,” Salah observed. This adaptability has been crucial in maintaining Liverpool’s consistency this season.

Despite their impressive form, Salah warned against complacency. Reflecting on Liverpool’s previous campaigns, he admitted that there’s still a lesson to be learned. “We had more than 90 points three times but didn’t win the title,” he reminded. Salah stressed the importance of staying focused throughout the season, advising young players to “stay humble and work hard.”
Liverpool’s struggles last season were a wake-up call. Salah acknowledged that the team needs to maintain their momentum and avoid celebrating prematurely. “We need to focus on our games, win our games, and see where we are at the end of the season,” he advised.
Salah’s influence extends far beyond the football pitch. He is an inspiration for millions across the Arab world. When asked about his impact on the Islamic and Arab communities, Salah said, “I just want them to believe they can achieve anything they want.”
Reflecting on his journey, Salah shared his purpose in life. “When I went to Basel, I realised my purpose could be to inspire Egyptian people. But over time, I thought, why only Egyptians? Why not Arabs and Africans too?” he explained.
Salah’s journey from humble beginnings to global stardom is a testament to perseverance. He recounted the difficulties he faced early in his career, including lengthy travel times just to attend training sessions. “I used to travel four and a half hours, train for two hours, then travel back. It’s funny now when I think about how tired we feel after just two hours on a bus,” he joked.
Salah’s dedication to Liverpool and his desire to win more titles, particularly the Premier League, remains unwavering. “I want to win the Premier League more than the Champions League this year,” he stated, underscoring his hunger for domestic success.
With Arne Slot at the helm and Salah leading by example, Liverpool’s future looks promising. Salah’s impact, both on and off the pitch, is undeniable. As he continues to break records and inspire millions, his legacy at Liverpool and beyond will only grow stronger.
