With the Rangers’ transfer window continuing on in earnest, manager Russell Martin has today confirmed, surprisingly, that Rangers are indeed interested in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, the Crystal Palace left-winger. He has been on loan at Sheffield United and has impressed over the past season or two, and has been a target, as announced initially by The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
That was then clarified again by Rangers Review’s Chris Jack, but regardless of the nature of the bid, Russell Martin has effectively confirmed that Rangers are indeed interested in bringing the winger to Ibrox.
It is the second time in this window that the manager has announced interest in a player, which we were led to believe is a cardinal sin for a manager to do. Generally speaking, managers will usually deny interest, or at least keep it vague, due to the simple professionalism and business conduct that is required for these transactions.
But Martin has put his head on the block here once again by confirming Rangers’ interest, which for information purposes is useful, but in terms of transparency and the notion of fans being happy with no information leaking out, perhaps not so good.
It is an ambitious target, however. Martin has confirmed he was interested in the lad at Southampton and it didn’t happen, and he’s interested again at Rangers. We will see if this one takes place, and it does seem that the lad is a bit of a player.
