Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has not been afraid to take huge calls since coming on board, including dropping both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the Manchester derby matchday squad.
And since that decision, the Mancunian is still to find a way back into the first team while the Argentine has had to be satisfied with appearances off the bench.
The Portuguese has questioned the 20-year-old’s work ethic both on and off the pitch while his lifestyle choices have also come under the scanner recently.
Following his squad demotion, there has been talk of INEOS being open to moving him on despite his recent contract extension as the club grapples to deal with the deteriorating PSR situation.
There has been tentative interest from former club Atletico Madrid and even Paris Saint-Germain, but United’s asking price has meant not too many concrete approaches are expected mid-season.
Garnacho now has no option but to try and regain the coach’s trust in order to win back his place in the first XI. And the only way to do that is to work even harder.
The Argentina international seems to be paying heed to the advice, and as relayed by The Peoples Person, he deleted his X/Twitter account before the Liverpool game last weekend and grabbed the assist for Amad Diallo’s equaliser.
And as per Givemesport, Amorim now wants to see more consistency from the winger, especially off the ball, something Rashford had failed to provide.
The head coach believes the Argentine wonderkid has the potential to make the left wing spot his own if the Mancunian departs in January.
“But once Rashford’s gone – with AC Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund all circling – Amorim wants Garnacho to grow into the left-sided attacking role – as long as he accepts the defending duties that Rashford didn’t buy into.
“Garnacho’s attacking threat and assist for Amad Diallo’s winner at Liverpool underlined his value to the team. But Amorim wants Garnacho to make himself ‘undroppable’ with more consistency a target for the youngster.”
Garnacho did not have the easiest of times when Erik ten Hag had arrived as well but he had fought his way into the Dutchman’s thinking and cemented his place in the team with his consistent and brave showings.
Now it is up to him again to prove his critics wrong and show everyone that he deserves to stay at Old Trafford.
