Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has warned his players not to think about the Europa League final ahead of the game against Chelsea on Friday.
United face Spurs in Bilbao next Wednesday but travel to Stamford Bridge before that.
The Red Devils have been in dreadful form in the league, having failed to win any of the last seven games, losing 2-0 to West Ham at Old Trafford in their last outing.
But despite United’s season hinging on whether they can win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League through the competition, Amorim has stressed the importance of their next clash and says he will not rest players for the sake of it.
“It’s going to be a massive part, this game, for the next one,” he said.
“So we need to perform, and they need to perform. That is the important thing.
“If there is a player that can get an injury, is not recovered for this game, and can be put at risk for the final, he will not play.
“But if he’s not in that situation, we’ll have a lot of time to recover, and we cannot spend eight days, nine days without the game. That is a bad thing for the final. So no, I think they will be prepared for the game.”
Amorim also says his side’s performance against Chelsea will influence his team selection against Spurs in the final.
“The best thing to prepare the final is to play the game,” he said.
“And then the players have to understand that if you play or don’t play against Chelsea, it means nothing to the final. That is important. I’m just preparing the game of Chelsea. That is my focus, and we want to win and to perform.
“The best way is to face the game like we should face the game, to win the game. We need to perform. We need to win points in Premier League.”
