Having arrived from Portuguese giants Sporting CP amid much excitement, the 39-year-old former midfielder has struggled to hit the ground running at the Theatre of Dreams.

Following their 3-1 defeat against Brighton at the weekend, Amorim levied shocking criticism toward his players, dubbing them the 'worst-ever team' in the club's history.

Now, Amorim has defended those remarks in the run-up to their Europa League clash against Rangers tonight.

"I know what I said. I know it is hard for people to listen" Amorim said. "I tried to explain now in the press conference that I was talking more about me because we played ten games with me as a coach in the Premier League and we lost seven, and it's really hard"

Thankfully for Amorim, a win tonight would see the Red Devils take one step closer to automatic qualification to the knockout stage of the competition, which would do well to alleviate some of the pressure that has already piled on top of him.
