Celtic have had a lot of great players over the years. Generally, they are brilliant when it comes to making signings within their budget, developing them and then moving them on for significantly higher transfer fees in the future. But there are some occasions when things just don't work out, even when the player has enjoyed tremendous growth at Parkhead.
One key player who left Celtic for a bargain transfer fee was Ryan Christie. He was in the final six months of his contract and it is believed that Bournemouth signed him for a figure around £1.5 million.
That will go down as one of the best signings in Bournemouth history. Since joining the club in the summer of 2021, Christie has made almost 150 appearances for the Cherries.
During that period of time, they have made it to the Premier League from the Championship and then established themselves in the English top division. The former Celtic player has been an integral part of that success. That deserves a ton of credit and Roy Keane is someone who has taken notice of Christie's quality.
As reported by Glasgow World, Keane told Sky Sports about Christie:
"We praise their recruitment (at Bournemouth), but also the improvement of the players like Ryan Christie. He has been outstanding in the last few months. So, the manager deserves credit for that because he (Christie) was already at the club and he is improving him and that’s what a really good manager does."
At times, there has been speculation about Christie potentially returning to Celtic. But at 30 years of age, it appears that he should have at least a few more seasons in the Premier League left in the tank.
After that, perhaps a return to Parkhead could be on the cards. Celtic are no strangers to signing established Premier League veterans. In recent years, they have brought in the likes of Joe Hart, Kasper Schmeichel, Aaron Mooy and Jeffrey Schlupp in their 30s. Could Christie join that list in the future? Time shall tell.
