Manchester United’s priority heading into yet another week is finalising the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.
The Old Trafford faithful are beginning to pull their hair out with just how long this saga is dragging on, given it’s now been over a month since United submitted their opening bid of £55 million.
Brentford swiftly rebuffed the proposal, making it clear they viewed their talisman in the same price region as United’s first summer signing Matheus Cunha, for whom they agreed to activate his £62.5m release clause.
United returned with an improved proposal to try and meet such demands, this time offering £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons, but this, too, was rejected.

It’s previously been claimed that Ruben Amorim was adamant about having Mbeumo in his ranks in time for pre-season getting underway. Yet, he and the squad are reporting back to Carrington today to begin their preparations for 2025/2026, and the Bees star remains no closer to making the switch.
You can’t really blame Brentford for standing firm in their demands, though. The 25-year-old, whom ex-manager Thomas Frank hailed as ‘unplayable’ last season, is on the back of a career-best campaign at the Gtech Community Stadium, having notched 20 Premier League goals for the first time whilst also contributing eight assists.
He started every single league fixture and played a total of 3,417 minutes throughout the term. In comparison, United’s most dependable figure, Bruno Fernandes, featured for 3,023 minutes in the top flight.
Mbeumo has also already made it clear to his other suitors (Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur) that he has his heart set on a move to the 20-time champions, meaning the ball is well and truly in the Reds’ court to make the move come to fruition.
Fabrizio Romano provided a brief update on the situation this morning via X/Twitter, saying: “Manchester United’s absolute focus remains on Bryan Mbeumo deal with talks set to continue this week.
“No agreement with Brentford last week but #MUFC keep working on it and Bryan also keeps giving priority to United move.
“Deal on.”
