Roma fought back from a second-half deficit to hold bitter Derby della Capitale rivals Lazio to a dramatic 1-1 Serie A draw at the Stadio Olimpico.

Despite being held to a 1-1 draw against Juventus last time out, Roma headed into proceedings in high spirits. Claudio Ranieri’s charges carried an impressive 15-game unbeaten league streak into tonight’s derby, seeking a third consecutive win against Lazio for the first time since 2016.

However, Roma struggled in the first half and needed Mile Svilar’s heroics between the sticks to avoid a halftime deficit. Indeed, the Serbian goalkeeper made three fantastic saves to deny Alessio Romagnoli and Gustav Isaksen (twice) to secure parity at the break.

Yet, Lazio grabbed a well-deserved opener through Romagnoli at the start of the second half. Despite lacking ideas in the front third, Roma rescued a point as Matias Soule’s moment of brilliance stunned Marco Baroni’s team. The Argentine forward netted one of the best goals you’ll see in Serie A this season to keep Roma’s undefeated league run going.

Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.

Roma (3-4-2-1)

Mile Svilar – 8

Had it not been for his stunning reflexes, Roma would’ve entered the break at least two goals down. Though Romagnoli’s second header left him powerless, Svilar made another impressive stop to deny Pedro.

Zeki Celik – 7

Playing in the back three seemingly suits him better than operating on the wing as his defensive prowess came to the fore. He also tested Mandas with a feeble effort in the second half.

Gianluca Mancini – 7.5

The Italian center-back enjoyed a superb game against Taty Castellanos, making Lazio’s star striker look anonymous for large spells. Brilliant defending!

Evan Ndicka – 6

In addition to struggling to deal with Isaksen’s diagonal runs, the Ivorian almost scored a sloppy own goal at 1-1. Not one of his best nights in the Roma shirt!

Alexis Saelemaekers – 6

An atypically quiet first half for the Milan loanee saw him spend most of the game in his opening third without making his usual overlapping runs, but he grew into the contest after the break.

Manu Kone – 5.5

Roma’s midfield mainstay was a shadow of his former self, failing to impact the play despite being handed the role of a roaming playmaker.

Leandro Paredes – 5.5

His South American mentality got the better of him as he got booked after only five minutes. Largely ineffective in possession, he stayed in the dressing room at halftime.

Angelino – 6.5

The diminutive wingback’s trademark surges down the left flank were Roma’s primary attacking outlet in the first half. However, he ran out of steam afterward as fatigue set in.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – 3

Whistles from the Roma fans when Ranieri took him off probably best summarized Pellegrini’s wasteful performance in perhaps his last Derby della Capitale appearance.

Matias Soule – 7.5

Roma’s best-performing outfield player without any doubt! Apart from scoring a ‘Goal of the Season’ contender with a sensational curling effort from distance, he constantly tormented Lazio’s backline with his flair and directness.

Artem Dovbyk – 3.5

Completely neutralized by Romagnoli, the Ukrainian striker cut an isolated figure up front and never threatened the Lazio goal, marking one of his quietest outings of the season.

Substitutes

Bryan Cristante – 6

Eldor Shomurodov – 5.5
