Just hours after tickets went on sale for the Europa League semi-final first-leg match with Bayer Leverkusen, over 60,000 have been snapped up by Roma fans.
Outside of premium seats that still remain on sale, that is a sell-out for the May 9th fixture and a reflection of the rabid support enjoyed by the Giallorossi, which has been evident in their European run to date. The atmosphere at the quarter-final second-leg against Feyenoord was no doubt an important factor in the team’s stunning 4-1 win.
The demand for tickets was such that more than 41,000 were in the queue for the tickets, which topped the record set last season prior to the Europa Conference League game with Leicester City.
José Mourinho has rejuvenated a club and fanbase starved of success in recent times and will hope to add the Europa League to the Conference League won last season to his elite personal trophy cabinet. He will have to go through his former player Xabi Alonso in the semi-final first.
He will once again hope the Stadio Olimpico faithful can act as a 12th man for his team and drive them toward another European final.
