Roldan scores but Sounders FC comeback falls short versus Botafogo

SEATTLE – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continued as Seattle Sounders FC fell 2-1 against Botafogo in Group B at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, USA.
The reigning CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores winners opened the scoring in the 28’ as Jair Cunha connected a header to a free kick service from Alex Telles.
The Brazilian side extended its lead in the 44’ through a header from Igor Jesus, with a cross from the right side by Vitinho.
Cristian Roldan cut the deficit for the Sounders in the 75’ with a header towards goal to meet a cross from Paul Rothrock.
The MLS side pushed for the equalizer but could not get a second past Botafogo goalkeeper John.
Seattle Sounders FC will return to Lumen Field to resume Group B play against Atlético de Madrid on Thursday.
