Manchester City supporters have received a significant update concerning Rodri’s recovery process from injury ongoing whilst the club endure a torrid run of form.

The Spain international has been ruled out since late September having sustained a double knee injury that required assessment and surgery in his home country, ruling him out for the remainder of the ongoing season.

Rodri’s absence, coupled with a multitude of other fitness and injury problems throughout Pep Guardiola’s squad, has arguably ended their hopes of a fifth-consecutive Premier League title and severely damaged their intentions in the UEFA Champions League.

Defeat to Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon made it just one victory in 11 matches across all competitions, leaving City outside of the top-four and scrambling for an immediate turn in fortunes to save their season.

But as things appear to be going from bad to worse for the club on the pitch, there has been a glimmer of hope off it when it comes to the road to recovery being worked on by Manchester City’s most integral player.

According to the information of The Sun newspaper, Manchester City’s Ballon d’Or winning midfielder is already ‘a couple of months ahead’ of schedule in his rehabilitation following surgery on a double knee injury sustained in September.

It is claimed that the 28-year-old has already taken on work on a running machine and has impressed medical staff with his range of motion, despite the initial feeling being that he would not feature again until the 2025/26 season.

Whilst Rodri himself has already targeted a return at the FIFA Club World Cup in June and July, the report reveals that there are now suggestions the Manchester City star could be back in action before the end of the ongoing Premier League campaign.

City will likely continue to eye significant investment during the January transfer window to ensure that the club remains competitive and does not derail their season even further through an inability to challenge at the very highest level.

There is a belief in various quarters that Manchester City are more than aware of the situation and hold an intention to sign at least one new player during the winter window, including a new face in the centre of midfield.

Some believe that Pep Guardiola has his eyes firmly fixed on Newcastle United captain and Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes, but it remains to be seen whether Manchester City would be willing to sanction the level of investment required in the middle of a campaign.
