Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is reportedly closing in on becoming the next Feyenoord manager.
Van Persie is currently in charge of Heerenveen, who sit ninth in the Eredivisie table.
The former striker, who established himself as an Old Trafford favourite after joining United from Arsenal, has earned plenty of plaudits for the way he has fared in his first managerial job.
His coaching skills have now led to interest from Feyenoord, who are competing in the Champions League this season.
The Dutch giants sacked Brian Priske a week ago following Feyenoord’s struggles in the Eredivisie. They currently find themselves in fourth place, 14 points behind league leaders Ajax. Priske succeeded Arne Slot, who left Rotterdam for Liverpool last summer.
Pascal Bosschaart has replaced Priske on an interim basis and led Feyenoord against AC Milan in the Champions League. The Dutch outfit knocked out the Italian giants to progress to the next round of the competition.
However, Bosschaart is not going to be handed the position on a permanent basis, with reports suggesting Van Persie is set to become the side’s new boss.
According to 1908.nl (via Sport Witness), Feyenoord have started the process of recruiting the ex-United superstar.
It is suggested that they need to negotiate with Heerenveen to free their manager from his contract.
Further, Feyenoord also intend to bring Rene Hake to the club to support Van Persie as his assistant.
As most fans would know, Hake was also part of Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Carrington. He moved to United from Go Ahead Eagles in July 2024 and was shown the exit door shortly after Ten Hag was sacked.
While Van Persie is set for a big managerial leap, former United midfielder Michael Carrick is facing question marks over his long-term future at Middlesbrough amidst a run of disappointing results.
