Manchester City’s stance on fresh European Super League developments has been revealed in a new report on Thursday afternoon.

In a significant development on Thursday morning, the European Court of Justice ruled that Uefa and Fifa rules banning clubs joining breakaway competitions like the European Super League were unlawful.

In light of the development, the company backing the European Super League, A22, launched a new proposal for men’s and women’s European competitions, consisting of a league system with 64 men’s clubs across three leagues with participation based on sporting merit and no permanent members.

However, the fresh developments and proposals were met with immediate backlash from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with the likes of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund immediately making their lack of interest clear in official statements.

Now, as per developing reports, Manchester City’s stance on the latest movements in the world of football competition have been reported, with the Treble winners aligning themselves with a number of their competition rivals.

That is according to the information of journalist Ben Jacobs, who reports that Manchester City’s position on the European Super League ‘remains the same’.

While no new statement is expected from the Premier League champions this week, in similar fashion to other European clubs, Ben Jacobs reports that sources are pointing back to their original withdrawal statement from 2021.

In a statement released by Manchester City in April 2021, the Premier League champions stated, “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that it has formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League.”

The decision to remove themselves from the European Super League came just three days after the club had announced their participation in the competition alongside 12 other founding member clubs.
