Roma edge closer to securing the services of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, as player gives personal approval
Roma have received a significant boost in their summer transfer window ambitions with Evan Ferguson giving his personal go-ahead to join the Giallorossi. The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international, born in 2004, has made it clear that he favours a move to the Italian capital despite interest from several top European clubs.
Sources close to the situation confirm that Ferguson has prioritised Roma’s project, impressed by the club’s sporting vision and potential under Daniele De Rossi. The forward sees the Serie A outfit as an ideal next step in his development, after a breakout spell in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Negotiations are currently active between Roma and Brighton, though the final structure of the deal remains under discussion. Brighton are holding firm on their valuation of €45 million, a figure reflecting Ferguson’s long-term potential and Premier League pedigree.
Roma, while keen to complete the signing, are exploring avenues to lower the asking price — potentially through add-ons, payment structure revisions, or the inclusion of a loan with an option or obligation to buy. The Giallorossi are also hopeful that Ferguson’s clear desire to join them could help unlock a compromise.
Ferguson, known for his intelligent movement, physical presence, and finishing ability, scored 6 goals in 21 Premier League appearances last season before injury setbacks curtailed his campaign. Despite a quieter end to 2024/25, he remains one of Europe’s most highly-rated young forwards.
With Roma seeking long-term successors to veteran forwards and building a youthful spine for the future, Ferguson fits the bill as a marquee acquisition. His potential arrival signals the club’s ambition to compete both domestically and in Europe, and to invest in emerging talent rather than relying solely on short-term solutions.
While the transfer is not yet finalised, Ferguson’s approval is a major step forward for Roma. Talks with Brighton will continue in the coming days, with both clubs working towards a resolution. Should the deal be completed, it would represent a strong statement of intent from the capital club as they look to challenge at the top of Serie A once more.
