Aston Villa are ready to step up their pursuit of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson according to Football Insider.

Jackson’s future at Stamford Bridge has been questioned following the arrival of both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, with the latter making an instant impact.

The Senegal international now faces competition for his place for the first time in his Chelsea career, and it will be interesting to see how he responds.

Aston Villa ready to step up Nicolas Jackson pursuit

Jackson started the Club World Cup as Chelsea’s first choice striker and arguably ended it as third choice after a disappointing tournament.

The 24-year-old failed to find the back of the net, was sent off against Flamengo, whilst he was also an unused substitute in the final.

Jackson signed a two year extension last year keeping him at Chelsea until 2033, but that hasn’t stopped him being linked with other clubs.

AC Milan are admirers of Jackson, but it’s thought the Senegalese will be too expensive for the Italian giants, whilst there’s also interest from the Premier League.

Manchester United are thought to be monitoring Jackson, whilst Aston Villa are also said to be keen on the former Villarreal man.

Football Insider have reported Jackson is unhappy at Chelsea after the signings of Delap and Pedro, which could open the door for Villa.

He scored ten league goals in a mixed season for Chelsea, although reportedly the expectation is Jackson will be a Chelsea player come the end of the window.

Unai Emery a big fan of Chelsea attacker

Unai Emery knows Jackson well from their time at Villarreal, and senior correspondent for Football Insider Pete O’Rourke has added further details on the situation.

“Unai Emery remains a big fan of Nicolas Jackson, so it’s no surprise that Villa are in the market for him,” he told Inside Track.

“We know Villa need reinforcements in attack – they still haven’t really replaced Jhon Duran – and Jackson’s future is up in the air at Chelsea as well.

“If he does become available before the end of the window, there’s no doubt that Aston Villa will be one of those clubs ready to make a move for him, because Unai Emery is a huge fan of his.”
