Liverpool are not waiting around. In an era where hesitation in the transfer market can prove costly, the Reds are reportedly on the brink of signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen – and all before the curtain falls on the current campaign. According to Caught Offside, the club wants the deal wrapped up before their final Premier League fixture on 25 May.
This urgency reflects not only intent but a welcome change in pace. After last summer’s drawn-out manoeuvring, the early pursuit of Frimpong hints at a sharper, more defined strategy under Richard Hughes and new head coach Arne Slot.
Jeremie Frimpong has long been admired across Europe, and it’s telling that Liverpool have accelerated talks to secure his services ahead of Manchester City and Real Madrid. The Dutchman – dynamic, fearless, and direct – was apparently earmarked early on as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s likely successor.

“Liverpool are aiming to finalise the signing of Frimpong before their final match of the season against Crystal Palace on 25 May, with transfer talks now into the ‘final stages’,” reports Caught Offside.
The Reds are expected to trigger the 24-year-old’s €40m (£33.7m) release clause, offering a five-year deal. Personal terms are largely agreed, with only minor issues – notably agent commission – remaining.
If completed, the deal would serve as a deft counter to Real Madrid’s pursuit of Alexander-Arnold. Ironically, Frimpong had been eyed by the Spanish giants had their Trent chase faltered.
It’s more than a good start. Finalising Frimpong before June would show how Slot and Hughes intend to operate – with foresight and precision. For a player who’s flourished in Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga-winning Leverkusen side, the Premier League is a natural next step.
There’s also the psychological boost. Beating both City and Madrid to a target reinforces Liverpool’s stature. As rebuilding jobs go, this is how you do it – proactively and with clear vision.
There’s a definite excitement among Liverpool fans about the prospect of Jeremie Frimpong arriving early. With Trent Alexander-Arnold Madrid-bound, the idea of losing one of our own has been hard to swallow. But this? This feels like a power move.
Frimpong isn’t a like-for-like replacement – and maybe that’s a good thing. His style leans more towards the marauding wing-back than the playmaker full-back we’ve grown used to. That could suit Arne Slot’s system perfectly. Fans are already imagining a setup with overlapping runs, hard pressing, and raw pace on that right-hand side.
The €40m fee feels reasonable, even cheap in today’s market, especially for someone proven in Europe and still only 24. Credit to Richard Hughes for moving swiftly – fans have long wanted more proactive transfer work. If this sets the tone for the summer, expectations will rightly be sky high.
