Aleksandar Kolarov will become Cristian Chivu’s assistant manager at Inter Milan in the coming days.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the former left-back is close to becoming part of the backroom staff at San Siro.

Inter had initially considered Giovanni Martusciello as Chivu’s assistant.

However, ‘bureaucratic’ issues have got in the way, forcing the Nerazzurri to drop interest in the Salernitana boss.

Therefore, they’ve switched their attention elsewhere, and their search has taken them to Aleksandar Kolarov.

The 39-year-old retired three years ago at Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter officially appointed Cristian Chivu as Simone Inzaghi’s successor yesterday.

However, they struggled to land Martusciello despite Chivu’s request.

Kolarov should soon assume the reins and join the Chivu’s staff before Inter’s trip to North America.

The Nerazzurri will compete at the FIFA Club World Cup next week, which will be Chivu’s first test on the new job.

Meanwhile, the former Serbia international will soon join forces with the Romanian coach on his old stomping ground.
