Hakan Calhanoglu and Stefan de Vrij reportedly sustained injuries in Inter Milan’s Supercoppa Italiana loss to AC Milan last night.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri will evaluate both stars’ fitness conditions in the coming days.
In addition to Calhanoglu and De Vrij, the reigning Scudetto holders will likely need to assess Joaquin Correa’s situation.
Despite barely featuring for Simone Inzaghi’s side this season, the Argentine’s potential absence could be an issue.
Indeed, Marcus Thuram suffered an injury in the Supercoppa semifinals against Atalanta last Thursday.
As if losing Thuram to a muscle problem wasn’t concerning enough, Inter suffered two more setbacks yesterday.
Calhanoglu started at the heart of Inzaghi’s midfield in last night’s 3-2 defeat in Riyadh.
However, he had to come off after only 35 minutes, with Kristjan Asllani taking his place.
Meanwhile, De Vrij lasted until the 84th minute before Matteo Darmian’s introduction.
While Thuram should be fit for Inter’s upcoming Serie A trip to Venezia, Calhanoglu and De Vrij may skip it.
On the bright side, Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi could recover in time.
Their potential return would make up for the Dutchman’s absence.
