Portugal international Joao Felix has begun talks over a return to former club Benfica this summer according to reports.

The Blues signed Felix last summer from Atletico Madrid for £45m, with the 25-year-old signing a seven year deal at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old was signed as a back-up to Cole Palmer and started just three Premier League games over the first half of the season.

Felix has begun talks over Benfica return

Felix decided in January he wanted to leave and completed a loan move to AC Milan, where after scoring on his debut things haven’t gone to plan.

It’s been reported Milan won’t sign him on a permanent basis, and the Portuguese will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of his loan.

Felix has been linked with West Ham and Wolves, whilst there’s also been talk of a return to Portuguese giants Benfica.

Caught Offside have reported Felix has already begun talks over a return to Benfica, with the club keen on resigning Felix.

The report adds clubs from the Saudi Pro League are also interested, with Chelsea said to want €35-€40m for the attacker.

The transfer has been a disaster for all involved and Chelsea will almost certainly make a loss on the Portuguese, with it unlikely they’ll get near the £45m they paid last summer.

The case of Felix is a strange one given how much hype surrounded him initially at Benfica, but it’s now not happened for him at a number of top clubs including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

It looks like Felix might have to take a step down in order to try and regain some form and confidence as he looks to rebuild his career and demonstrate the promise and talent he has.

Signing Felix is a gamble for any club given how his career has gone so far, but at the reported price it could be a gamble worth taking for some clubs, and it could prove to be a bargain if they can get him firing.
