Liverpool may get the chance to sign Martin Zubimendi after all.
The Times has reported that Zubimendi is open to leaving Real Sociedad in the January transfer window. Liverpool are interested in a deal for the midfielder.
The report has noted that Liverpool wanted to sign Zubimendi in the summer of 2024. The Spain international turned down the chance to move to Anfield because he wanted to continue to play for Sociedad.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has completely changed his mind now, according to The Times. The Spaniard is open to leaving Sociedad in January.
Arsenal and Manchester City have also been alerted to Zubimendi’s stance on his future. The Spaniard is valued at £50 million.
Zubimendi is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe. Arsenal, City and Liverpool’s interest in the Sociedad star underlines how good he is.
Liverpool are doing extremely well at the moment. Arne Slot’s side are favourites to win the Premier League title and they could also clinch the UEFA Champions League this season.
However, there is always room for improvement. While Ryan Gravenberch has established himself as a key player in the middle of the park and Alexis Mac Allister is a very reliable footballer, Zubimendi would give Slot a very good option in midfield.
Zubimendi is a hugely experienced player who would make Liverpool better in the middle of the park.
Moreover, with Arsenal and City also interested in Zubimendi, Liverpool could strike a blow to their Premier League title rivals by signing the midfielder in the January transfer window, not only for this season but for years to come as well.
Zubimendi has scored one goal and given two assists in 20 matches in all competitions for Sociedad so far this season. In the 2023-24 campaign, he scored four goals and provided one assist in 45 appearances.
