Oliver Reiss expressed his delight in the high intensity and all round team display in his team's 4-0 victory against Manchester United in the Under-18s Premier League North.
Reiss’s side put their stamp on the derby on 21 minutes after dominating the ball since the first whistle, as Ryan McAdioo placed the ball past Will Murdock from a pinpoint Finlay Gorman pass.
Reigan Heskey tapped in our second, seconds after the second-half began, before Stephen Mfuni rose highest to power in a header from a Divine Mukasa in swinging corner.
The substitutes combined 15 minutes from full-time as Christian Dunbar-McDonald laid the ball into the path of Luca Fletcher who rounded off the scoring with a shot across the United keeper.
And speaking after the match, Reiss beamed with a smile: “No, it doesn’t get much better [than a 4-0 victory against Manchester United].
“I’ve just said to the guys already that I am incredibly proud of the guys, especially because of the energy and the way we worked together, that was the biggest point for me today, the intensity.
“You cannot do it alone, there can be 11 players on the pitch and everyone can play with intensity, but this is not enough to affect each other, but to be able to stand as a team on the pitch, you could see it in every defending situation.
“Everyone supported each other, it was incredible today, and this is why they deserve the win.”
On the eye, City looked comfortable and in control for the duration of the match and the City Under-18s head coach was pleased with the goals, but more importantly the clean sheet.
“I'm very happy that we also kept the clean sheet,” Reiss expressed
“We deserved to have a clean sheet at the end, and I don't want to say it's just a good game when you win 4-0 against Manchester United, every other result would have the same reaction as we are happy.
“We want to score goals, and in the end to keep a clean sheet it’s so important for every one of us and also for our keeper, because he's the one who always wants to have a clean sheet, so this was also a part of a big game for us too.”
The final whistle blew to the sound of cheers in the City camp, after securing a twelfth successive league win since a 2-0 defeat to United back in August.
“I think this is the most important thing that you have to believe in winning every match.
“They can believe because they should know how good they are, then the challenge is to find the balance between believing that you are really good, but they are humble to improve.
“It’s not easy sometimes with the guys because they have to improve in different ways, but it's also our job as a coaching team to find the balance in between, and to push in the right moment and to know when to be smart or smooth to the players in the right moments.”
On this run, City have scored a league high 57 goals, the most in the league, and with four different goalscorer’s this afternoon, Reiss explained the importance of sharing the goals around the team.
“When you see our games as an opponent, you don't have to control just one player or two players. so winning matches is very important.
“But the object for us is to develop the players, and to have as many players someday being available for the highest level and also to have so many high talented players and you can see this also in scoring goals.”
