Referee designator Gianluca Rocchi is set to hand Marco Di Bello a one-month suspension after his poor management of the ferocious match between Lazio and Milan.

The 42-year-old referee brandished nine yellow cards and three red cards across the tense battle at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday night, seemingly losing control of the affair, which saw over 36 fouls committed across the 96 minutes.

The Italian newspapers heavily criticised the work of Di Bello, with Corriere dello Sport even giving him a rating of 3 out of 10, underlining how his poor management of the match derailed proceedings and ultimately tarnished the clash.

Gazzetta dello Sport details how Rocchi was not impressed with the work of Di Bello in Lazio’s 1-0 loss to Milan, believing the only positive call to be the lack of a penalty after the challenge between Mike Maignan and Valentin Castellanos.

Rocchi felt that Di Bello made mistakes everywhere else, including the red cards and general management of fouls and emotions. As such, he is now expected to be suspended for a month or so, the second time this season after his stop following the match between Juventus and Bologna back in August.
