Brentford B booked their place in the third round of the London Senior Cup with a 2-0 win over Redbridge.

A first-half penalty to Ethan Laidlaw gave the young Bees the lead going into half-time, trialist Caleb Redhead’s second-half goal ensuring the victory for Neil MacFarlane’s side.

Brentford started the clash in promising fashion, Laidlaw breaking down the left side and crossing the ball into the box, eventually cleared away by Redbridge.

The hosts’ best early chance came on 10 minutes, Joseph Elliott firing at goal but straight to the hands of Brentford goalkeeper Marley Tavaziva.

MacFarlane’s side dominated the next 20 minutes, the young Bees enjoying time in possession and winning the ball back quickly after losing it to put Redbridge back on the back foot.

Despite their dominance, chances were few and far between for Brentford. The hosts earned a free kick on 29 minutes, Elliott again firing from long range, the ball deflecting off the Brentford wall and over the bar.

Despite Brentford’s dominance, Redbridge found the back of the net first from a corner, however they were ruled offside.

As the half-time break approached the young Bees earned some reward for effort, Tavaziva’s threatening ball through the middle deflecting off multiple players and into the path of Redhead who pushed into the box and was taken down, the referee pointing to the spot.

Laidlaw stepped up confidently and slotted the penalty home, handing the visitors a well-earned lead going into the break.

Both sides started the second half full of energy, the pace of the game picking up in cold conditions. Tavaziva was called into action on 52 minutes, first fisting away a dangerous corner, then forced to dive to his left and secure the ball from the ensuing shot after it took multiple deflections.

He was at it again as the hour mark ticked over, a dangerous free kick heading towards the back post before being tipped away for a corner by Tavaziva.

The young Bees nearly doubled their lead against the run of play on the counterattack, however Laidlaw’s shot from the left side of the box was blocked and cleared.

After dealing with Redbridge’s early momentum, Brentford quickly got the game back under control. The substitution of Vonnte Williams at half-time proved a good one, his pace down the left side proving dangerous for the young Bees. Multiple crosses found their way into dangerous areas inside the box, however were cleared by the Redbridge defence.

Brentford found reward for effort on 81 minutes, Laidlaw’s cross from the left side hitting Redhead inside the box who tapped it home, securing a 2-0 win.
