Tottenham will not advance with an offer for Xavi Simons whilst Chelsea are still in for him according to Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea have identified Simons as a player they want to sign, but as of yet have been unable to close a deal with RB Leipzig.
Simons has made it clear he wants to join Chelsea, and has turned down approaches from other clubs, but the clock is now ticking until the end of the window.
Chelsea have been locked in negotiations with Leipzig for weeks, but can’t move to complete a deal until Christopher Nkunku leaves.
Simons has agreed personal terms with the Blues, and Leipzig are thought to want a total package of £60m, whilst Chelsea reportedly want to agree a deal worth around £50m.
Tottenham have shown interest in Simons, whilst there was reportedly also the threat of a hijack from Manchester City.

Spurs are considering whether to make a bid for Simons at this late stage, but Romano has provided an update on the situation.
“Tottenham will not advance or bid for Xavi Simons while Chelsea are still in for him!,” he told his YouTube channel.
“Chelsea remains in negotiations, and advanced talks with the player.
“It’s really important for Nkunku to go.”
Simons played for Leipzig in their Bundesliga opener on Friday night, but it remains to be seen if he plays this weekend, if a deal still hasn’t been finalised by then.
Nkunku holds the key to the Blues being able to move forward, and after links to both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig it looks like he could be on the move.
