In a recent update from Manu de Juan on AS, it has come to light that Real Madrid are currently relying on Lucas Vazquez for this season and, as a result, does not plan to make any signings during the January transfer window.

However, the club is already exploring potential options for the summer transfer window in June. Among the players being considered are Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jeremie Frimpong.

No signing in January

Real Madrid’s plans for the current season have become increasingly complex in recent times. The team began the season with a shortage of centre-backs, and the recent injury to Dani Carvajal has further compounded these issues.

Despite these challenges, the club has indicated that they will not pursue any new signings in January.

This statement, however, is not set in stone; there are still several weeks left until the end of 2024, and if the team demonstrates significant deficiencies due to the lack of defensive players, the management may reconsider their stance.

Looking ahead to the summer of 2025, Real Madrid are preparing to strengthen the right-back position.

Although they have been assessing potential signings for a while, the focus was initially on the longer term, as Carvajal’s performance in the previous season and so far this season did not necessitate an immediate replacement.

However, the circumstances have shifted. Carvajal has recently extended his contract until 2026.

Looking ahead

Nonetheless, at the age of 33 and after suffering a severe knee injury that resulted in a triple tear of the ligaments, there are concerns about whether he can regain his previous level of performance or meet the club’s expectations.

This context has led to the emergence of several names on Real Madrid’s radar, with Alexander-Arnold and Frimpong currently standing out as the most prominent options.

While the list of potential signings may expand as the months progress, these two players are the main contenders being evaluated at this time.

Real Madrid’s future strategy indicates a commitment to reinforcing their squad, particularly in key positions, ensuring they remain competitive in the coming seasons.
