A fresh insight into the plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid for on-loan defender Rafa Marín has today been forthcoming.

And the news will no doubt be met with excitement on the part of all those keen to see Marín lining out in the famed colours of Los Blancos next season.

This comes amid confirmation that precisely as much appears to be on the cards.

As per a report from Diario AS, the decision has long been made – Marín will be part of Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team squad for 2024/25.

The 21-year-old is considered the perfect backup option at the heart of defence, amid the expectation that captain Nacho is primed to move on.

Marín has spent the season to date on loan with Alavés, establishing himself as an undisputed starter in the process.

He has racked up the 4th most minutes of any member of Luis García’s squad, with his standout showing en route to Alavés’ 2-0 downing of Atlético Madrid over the weekend having only reiterated what the coaching staff at his parent club have long felt:

‘His year at Mendizorroza is confirming Marín as a defender with the necessary level for Real Madrid.’
