Real Madrid have turned things around over the last month, and if they win their game in hand on Atletico Madrid, will head off to Saudi Arabia in the Spanish Supercup at the top of La Liga. However concerns about Carlo Ancelotti’s job security were very much real.

As recently revealed by Carlo Ancelotti, that turning point can be traced back to a team talk that they had following defeat to AC Milan, when they set the bases for their resurgence. One of the key bases was simply running harder and more, but Ancelotti has also individually encouraged his stars to take control of that situation.

While it was the Italian manager that instigated the team talk, Relevo say that it was mostly the players that spoke, in particular Luka Modric rallying around Ancelotti. However the same outlet do note that his job was very much in danger – Sporting Director Santiago Solari was advised to prepare to take over as manager in case Real Madrid decided to dismiss Ancelotti.

It would not be the first time that Solari has jumped into a tricky situation, replacing Julen Lopetegui in the 2017-18 season. However the Argentine did not make it past February, when Zinedine Zidane returned for a second spell.
