Paul Breitner, a former Real Madrid player between 1974 and 1977, has spoken highly of Florian Wirtz, a forward for Bayer Leverkusen, claiming he is the missing piece for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid are actively seeking new players to enhance the squad for the upcoming season, with a clear focus on who could be their next star signing for 2025.
While there has been speculation about several players, including Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold, Wirtz stands out as the main target.
Real Madrid view him as a strategic addition, right after the signings of Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham, and they believe he has the potential to dominate European football in the next decade.
However, acquiring Wirtz is expected to be challenging. Real Madrid will likely have to pay over €100 million to secure his services and outbid other top clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Despite the hefty price tag, the Spanish club believes that Wirtz’s abilities make him an essential part of their future plans.

In Germany, his talent is widely recognised, and even Breitner, a legend of German football, has shared his admiration for the young player.
He pointed out that while Bayer Leverkusen is often praised for having the best team in the Bundesliga, he believes that the team’s star is none other than Wirtz.
Breitner, who has been following Wirtz’s progress closely, has even suggested that if Real Madrid manages to secure his signature, the club could be set for a bright future in European football.
He went as far as predicting that with Wirtz on the team, Real Madrid could win five Champions League titles in the next ten years.
In his view, Wirtz is the player that the club has been missing, and his extraordinary talent would be the perfect addition to the squad.
“If Real Madrid buy Wirtz this summer, they will have five Champions Leagues in the next decade. He is the player they are missing, he is an extraordinary player,” he said as quoted by AS.
For now, everything related to Wirtz is a rumour in the air, but the steam might clear towards the summer transfer market.
