As Real Madrid prepares for a crucial UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool at Anfield, the spotlight isn’t just on the pitch but also off it.
That is because the two clubs are set to hold an important meeting at lunch, regarding the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, reports MARCA.
The English full-back, whose contract with Liverpool is set to expire in June 2025, has been at the center of transfer speculations, with Real Madrid showing keen interest.
The relationship between Liverpool and Real Madrid has always been described as “superlative,” allowing for open and direct communication between the clubs.
This rapport was evident earlier this season when Liverpool reached out to Real Madrid to inquire about their interest in Alexander-Arnold. The response was affirmative, setting the stage for today’s high-stakes meeting.

Real Madrid’s urgency in acquiring a top-tier right-back has intensified following an injury to Dani Carvajal, leaving them with limited options for the remainder of the season.
Even with Lucas Vázquez returning from injury and Federico Valverde occasionally filling in, the need for a player like Alexander-Arnold, valued at around €70 million, has become pressing.
The talks today could potentially lead to a January transfer, a move that would prevent Alexander-Arnold from leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
Real Madrid, for their part, certainly haven’t ruled out a January move for the Englishman, whose addition could go a long way in alleviating the team’s woes in the fullback position.
This scenario benefits Liverpool, who, despite having promising youth in Connor Bradley, might prefer securing some transfer fee rather than losing their star for nothing.
