Real Madrid’s long-standing quest for a Luka Modrić successor has reportedly led them to Vitinha, Paris Saint-Germain’s dynamic midfielder. With Modrić set to leave after 13 seasons at the Bernabéu, the Spanish club has turned its attention to a player who fits the profile of a modern No. 8, but any deal already faces substantial obstacles.

According to sources in Spain and France, Real Madrid have initiated conversations with Vitinha’s agent, Jorge Mendes, gauging the appetite for a summer move. Those close to the situation insist that Vitinha is high on Madrid’s list, with reports in Marca hinting that a €100 million offer could be in the pipeline.

PSG, however, are showing no signs of softening their stance. Club officials view Vitinha as a cornerstone for the future, especially after the Portuguese midfielder signed a contract extension that ties him to the Parc des Princes until 2029. There is no release clause in place, and PSG have made it clear—to clubs and intermediaries alike—that Vitinha is considered “untouchable.” The club’s financial strength, coupled with several recent renewals, means there is little incentive to negotiate.

For his part, Vitinha appears settled and focused. Public statements from the player reinforce his satisfaction with life in Paris and his alignment with Luis Enrique’s vision. Speaking earlier this season, Vitinha emphasised his belief in the “project” at PSG and gave no indication of angling for a move. Luis Enrique has been vocal about Vitinha’s importance, stating, “Vitinha understands the game at the highest level. He’s not for sale.”

On the pitch, Vitinha’s performances continue to underline his value. Across 50 appearances in all competitions this season, he has chipped in with 7 goals and 2 assists, maintaining a 93% pass accuracy. In the Champions League alone, he has produced 2 goals and 1 assist in 16 matches, racking up 21 key passes, 22 successful dribbles, and 20 interceptions. He has featured as both a No. 6 and No. 8, showing tactical intelligence and adaptability within the midfield.

Real Madrid’s need for a creative, press-resistant midfielder is well known, especially as they prepare for a transition era post-Modrić. Vitinha’s style would slot in naturally, providing a blend of technical reliability and ball progression that has become a hallmark of Madrid’s midfield over the past decade. Still, Madrid have also been linked to other targets, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons—both of whom might offer different strengths or profiles.

Fan responses reflect the uncertainty. PSG supporters appear pleased with Vitinha’s commitment, seeing him as a future leader within the core of the team. Among Madrid’s faithful, there is curiosity about Vitinha’s fit, though some are holding out for a marquee signing.

Madrid have the financial muscle to test PSG’s resolve further, but sources close to the French club are adamant that even a nine-figure bid would be met with resistance unless it blows previous records out of the water. The probability of a deal remains low unless Madrid returns with an extraordinary offer in excess of €120 million, and there is no evidence at this stage that Vitinha is agitating for a change of scenery.

The market dynamic is unlikely to shift quickly. PSG’s position is reinforced by their stability and the confidence of Luis Enrique in his midfield mainstay. Meanwhile, Madrid’s search for a successor to Modrić continues to evolve, with several names still in play as the summer window approaches.
