Real Madrid’s summer signing Dean Huijsen has shared his thoughts on Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi.

During an interview with MARCA, the young centre-back spoke honestly about his bond with the Barça talent when the two link up on international duty with Spain.

Both Huijsen and Cubarsi are considered the future of Spain’s defence. Despite their young age, their performances already show maturity and consistency, making them key players for the national team in the years to come.

Huijsen was asked whether he would prefer a more physical partner to balance his own style of play, and his response was clear and confident.

“Why not? He’s a great centre back. I feel comfortable alongside him, just like I do with Robin Le Normand or Dani Vivian,” Huijsen said.

Interestingly, Huijsen’s chance to break into Spain’s senior squad came as a result of Cubarsi’s unfortunate injury.

It must be remembered that the Barcelona defender picked up a problem against the Netherlands during the Nations League playoff earlier this year, which opened the door for Huijsen to step in.

He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, impressing with his performances, and soon after, Real Madrid made their move to secure his signature.

Praise of Lamine Yamal

The Real Madrid defender is not only linked with Cubarsi through the Spanish team but is also a teammate of Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.

Despite the fierce rivalry between the two clubs, Huijsen only had kind words for the 18-year-old.

“A great player. I hope he does very well here and that when we face each other in the league, he doesn’t do too much,” he said with a smile.

Huijsen’s respect for Cubarsi and Yamal is a show of a growing bond between Spain’s new generation of stars, even though club rivalries will continue to bring intensity on the pitch.

At Barcelona, they can take pride in their young talents, as Spanish football seems secure with such promising players ready to carry the torch.
