Depletions stemming from injuries have proven to be a significant roadblock for Real Madrid this season.
With only a few days left in the La Liga campaign after the end of the preseason, Real Madrid’s starting goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, suffered an unexpected injury, ruling him out for almost the entirety of the campaign.
Kepa Arrizabalaga and Andriy Lunin have done a tremendous job alleviating his absence, but Real Madrid anxiously await his return.
Earlier today, reports came out claiming Courtois notified Real Madrid that he would not be going to the Euro 2024 with the Belgian national team and would instead be staying in Madrid to recuperate, intending to return to 100% as soon as possible.
However, recent information contradicts the report, as according to RMC Sport, Thibaut Courtois’ entourage has denied the news that the goalkeeper has informed Real Madrid of not going to the Euros.
While a return date for the keeper has not been set just yet, given the lengthy recovery period of ACL injuries, Courtois does not rule out the scenario of playing for Belgium in the Euros in the event he is all healed.
National obligations undeniably hold incredible weight for players, and as a key member of the Belgium national team, the 31-year-old’s involvement in the Euros would come across as a huge relief for his countrymen.
The possibility of Courtois making it just in time before the season officially wraps up is also on the cards.
The goalkeeper may be able to participate in the season’s final games as the Merengues take on Real Betis in their last La Liga match on May 26.
If Courtois is able to make a recovery by then, his inclusion in the Euros would be a serious possibility.
