Arda Guler’s starting role in the Copa del Rey clash against Real Sociedad on Wednesday provided a much-needed boost for the young Turkish midfielder, who had been growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of game time at Real Madrid.
Before that match, the 20-year-old had gone five consecutive games without playing a single minute, leading to speculations about his future at the club.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has repeatedly addressed the situation, emphasising that Guler’s path follows the same process as other young talents before him.
However, according to Sergio Fernandez, neither Guler nor his camp fully accept this explanation from Ancelotti.
In fact, the report states that the Turkish prodigy has made up his mind: he will not endure another season like this one. Either he plays more regularly or he leaves the club permanently – the possibilty of a loan deal if off the table.

Ceballos’ unfortunate injury, which will sideline him for two months, might open a window of opportunity for the youngster. However, Luka Modric still remains ahead of him in Ancelotti’s pecking order.
The departure of Ancelotti and the arrival of a new coach could offer Guler a fresh start, but with four trophies still in play, no one’s future is certain. For now, the Italian is operating as if he will remain in charge.
Regardless of what happens, a loan move is completely ruled out – not even for a short-term return to Fenerbahce.
If he is to leave, it must be a permanent transfer to a club where he can finally secure the game-time he craves. Plenty of top clubs will compete for his signature, but Guler’s priority remains staying and proving himself at Real Madrid.
Inside the dressing room, his integration has improved significantly. His English has gotten better, allowing for smoother communication with teammates.
The coaching staff continues to fine-tune his defensive discipline, a crucial requirement in Ancelotti’s system.
For Guler, accepting a loan would mean admitting failure. A transfer, however, particularly to another major club, would be seen as a fresh start rather than a setback. But above all, his main objective is to succeed at Real Madrid.
