Real Madrid star declares himself best in the world in his position | OneFootball

Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal believes there is no-one better than him at his position in world football currently. The 32-year-old has voiced his desire to be named in the FIFA Best XI before the end of his career, and certainly he has a good shout this season.

Carvajal started the season playing high up, getting to the byline and even chipping in with several goals. After doubts about his fitness in recent years, it is undoubtedly his most consistent campaign in some time, and according to the player himself, his best yet.

“I think so, at the level of continuity, contribution and level, without any doubt,” Carvajal told Cadena SER.

He was also asked bluntly if he was the best right-back in the world.

“Assessing this last year, I think so, I always believe that for my confidence, I always tell myself I am, if I don’t, who will? But the numbers are there. It has been a good year, winning the Champions League, even scoring, the league and now wanting to take Spain as far as possible in the Euros.”

Certainly goals at Euro 2012 and in the Champions League final will not have hurt his visibility, and there is no doubt he is in the conversation. Capable of causing problems going forward, few full-backs bring the steely competitiveness that Carvajal has shown, and without his defensive capabilities, their passage through Manchester City and Bayern Munich would have been in doubt.
