Real Madrid Star Criticized by Pundit for ‘Mediocre’ Performance in Recent Months | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappé struggled to start the 2024-25 La Liga campaign, but the former Paris Saint-Germain star heads into the international break riding positive momentum as he scored a brace this past weekend against Real Betis.

Nonetheless, the two goals aren’t saving Mbappé from the French media. As the 1998 World Cup winner with France, former player Christophe Dugarry harshly criticized Mbappé.

Dugarry’s criticism doesn’t come from the slow start at Real Madrid; it dates back to the end of his PSG tenure and entered the UEFA Euro 2024 competition as Mbappé wasn’t a factor while also suffering a facial injury that probably affected his performance.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo (h/t CNN Brasil), Dugarry stated that the 25-year-old’s play in recent months has been mediocre.

“Mbappé, despite statistics and important goals, has been mediocre and insufficient in the game for a long, long time,” Dugarry said. “It has been several months now, whether with the French national team, Paris Saint-Germain, or currently at Real Madrid.

“He needs to improve as a forward; he’s making less and less of an impact and needs to question himself. He will need to progress. We also see Mbappé’s technical limitations.

“We know he’s not in the top 10 most technical players. And today, his limitations are evident when playing alongside a player like Vinícius Jr.”

It will be interesting to see whether PSG’s all-time leading goal scorer will put the slow start behind them once the international break is over or whether Mbappé will endure a rollercoaster first season with Real Madrid.
