Having already made four signings this summer, Real Madrid have now hit the brakes and are seriously contemplating their path ahead in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The manager, after all, hopes for a few more signings but the club see some sales to be necessary.

The likes of Rodrygo Goes and Dani Ceballos, at this point, are seen to be saleable and it remains to be seen if either exit works out for the men in white.

Should the deals go through, the manager has a clear idea of where the funds should be used.

As related by ESPN, Xabi Alonso wants the club to bring in a new deep-lying midfielder who cannot only serve as a defensive asset but also a playmaking monster. In many senses, he wants to have his own ‘Xabi Alonso’ for next season.

No feasible target

As it stands, the manager sees Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga to be his only two options as a defensive midfielder. However, he sees neither of them to be a ball-playing expert to fit his system perfectly.

It is not surprising that the coach sees the pivot position to be one in need of a revamp, especially given how the club have continually been linked with a new signing in the position for a while now.

Targets like Martin Zubimendi and Angelo Stiller have been discussed but nothing came from the rumours.

They like Rodri

The outlet further relays that Manchester City’s Rodri is the player Alonso admires the most as a new signing for the department.

A knee injury, however, means that the signing of the Ballon d’Or winner is unlikely and complicated. Not just that, it is known that Manchester City will never participate in any kind of deal.

Real Madrid will continue monitoring names and alternative targets until the end of August and look for a new signing who can provide the profile they lack.

Should a new arrival not work out, however, the manager will look to retain faith in Tchouameni who did a commendable job at the FIFA Club World Cup.
