This past Saturday was a momentous one for Real Madrid. Their dominant 3-0 victory over Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu, coupled with Barcelona’s surprising 2-4 defeat to Girona, officially sealed Los Blancos’ fate as La Liga champions for the 2023/24 season.

But since the Barcelona defeat came after the Real Madrid game, La Liga has designated May 11th, the away match against Granada, as the official trophy presentation.

Real Madrid do not want to celebrate trophy vs Granada

However, in a significant development, a recent report from MARCA suggests that Real Madrid players are not keen on celebrating the trophy against Granada away from home.

It appears Real Madrid players prefer not to receive the trophy at Granada’s Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes as it may coincide with the home team’s relegation to the second division.

Granada are currently languishing in the 19th position and another defeat this coming weekend could seal their relegation from the top-flight.

Lifting the trophy amidst Granada’s potential heartbreak presents an emotional challenge for the Real Madrid players.

As such, Los Blancos have requested RFEF to hand them the league trophy at the Bernabeu on May 14, when they play Deportivo Alaves.

Real celebrations at Cibeles

Regardless of whether or not Real Madrid celebrate away from home, Real Madrid’s true celebration will occur on Sunday.

An open-top bus parade through the streets of Madrid, culminating at the Cibeles fountain, will be the heart of the festivities.

While a Bernabeu celebration is off the table due to pre-booked concerts, a fan-player gathering is planned for May 8th, potentially following the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

In the meantime, Real Madrid will hope that RFEF agrees to listen to their plea and delay their coronation till the next home game.
