When Real Madrid signed Reinier Jesus from Flamengo in January 2020, it was believed that they had gotten their hands on one of Brazil’s most exciting young talents.

The Merengues spent €30 million on the attacking midfielder, staving off competition from several other European giants, including Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

However, things have not gone according to plans for the Brazilian at the club and he now finds himself staring at the possibility of terminating his contract.

Reinier to train with Castilla

According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Reinier will start training with Real Madrid Castilla from today while waiting for his future to be sorted out.

The club officials are set to meet with the Brazilian youngster’s agent over the coming month to finalise his future, with his contract expiring in 2026.

Previous reports have suggested that a mutual termination of the contract is not ruled out considering the lack of offers for the 23-year-old.

However, Cortegana’s update does state that Reinier is attracting some interest from clubs in Brazil, including his former team Flamengo.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder has never featured for the Real Madrid first team. He made three appearances for Castilla in 2020, before leaving for Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan later that year.

Following that, there were temporary spells at Girona, Frosinone, and most recently, Granada, none of which saw him excel over an extended period.

Now, not in the plans of the Xabi Alonso’s first team or Alvaro Arbeloa’s Castilla, Reinier awaits resolution over his future, with a return to Brazil now on the cards.
